Sami culture
Visit Lappstaden, a beautiful, well-preserved and peaceful place situated 5 minutes from the centre of Arvidsjaur. Here you can feel history come alive and see more than 80 Sami buildings from the late 18th century. Join the daily guided tour at 18.00 during the peak season or experience Lapland at your own pace. Lappstaden really comes alive during the last weekend in August each year, during the Sami religious holidayStorstämningshelgen. During this weekend you can experience lassooing competitions, a dried meat auction, church services and much more in Lappstaden.

Rustic sights
New!
Visit Granberget and see a 19th century farm come alive with animals and a personal welcome. Arvidsjaur’s beautiful timber church from 1903 is open daily during the summer and is well worth a visit. At the local heritage museum you can learn more about the history of the district in the charming setting by the Old Vicarage. The museum sells crafts produced by a number of different local craftsmen. Shop for unique, genuine souvenirs from Lapland at Anna-Lisa’s Souvenir Shop, which is right by the station in Arvidsjaur, or buy something nice for yourself in one of the cosy little boutiques along the main street – handicrafts, clothes, furnishings, toys and much more.


Nature’s own water park
Grab the chance to go on an unusual adventure: go on a beaver safari with fishing and a stop ashore along a river or stream. Fish for arctic char in some of Sweden’s best fishing waters with a local guide and good food. Overnight stay in a Sami tepee is optional. Go hiking with a guide along the historic Nasaleden through the Tjärnheden dead ice area with its abundance of lakes. Or visit one of more than 20 nature reserves in the municipality. Centrumbadet in Arvidsjaur offers aquatic fun for all ages, both indoors and out. At Camp Gielas you can swim outdoors in a lake with a gently shelving sand beach and jetties. The steam train stops for swimming and a barbecue by the shore of Lake Storavan on Friday and Saturday evenings in peak season.
