Berg municipality offers good opportunities for activities and experiences all year round. Berg has a fantastic mixture of genuine mountain regions, forests, as well as the countryside around Lake Storsjön with its beautiful shores. The bestknown tourist destinations are the Ljungdalfjällen mountains, Gräftåvallen (Bydalsfjällen mountains) and Klövsjö-Storhogna (Destination Vemdalen). Ljungan offers good and varied fishing for fishing enthusiasts. Inlandsbanan stations include Åsarna, Svenstavik and Hackås..     

 

The southern home of the Storsjö Monster
When you stop over in Svenstavik you are in the ideal spot for a base for several different expeditions. Svenstavik also offers service and shopping.

Hoverberget (approx. 7 km*)
At the mountain that rises out of Lake Storsjön you can explore Sweden’s largest cleft cave (81 metres long, 25 metres high). From the top of the mountain you get a magnificent view and can see all the way to the mountains on the Norwegian border. Round off your visit with a nice cup of coffee in the Toppstugan café.

Hovermo (approx. 15 km*)
Hovermo farm and industrial museum is a treasure trove for anyone technically minded, but everyone can experience a real sense of nostalgia when exploring what has been created here for four generations. This place is full of inventions for technical solutions, but also some that have been developed just for fun.

Persåsen (approx. 20 km*)
Nature, art and handicraft take centre stage in the manufacture of specially designed furniture, tools, utensils and ornaments made from forest gold. The Persåsen exhibitions include hundreds of square metres of Nordic handicraft, Jämtland works of art and art exhibitions. Genuine handicraft – each object is unique.

Hackås
In Hackås you can visit Hackås church, a very interesting medieval church with splendid decorations and wall paintings that are of great historical value. The area around Hackås church is known as Heaven, and people have been walking the Jämtland-Norway Pilgrim Route here since time immemorial. Today it is the site for a pilgrim centre, steamboat museum and café. Strömbacka Mill from 1872 is one of the best preserved mills in the country. In the summertime a restaurant is open here and it is also the venue for the annual competition ”Årets näck”, where contestants compete for the title of male water-sprite of the year.

Food and views in Klövsjö
A 15 minute bus trip takes you to the Jämtland mountains! Klövsjö is in a startlingly beautiful location and it is easy to see why the village has been voted the most beautiful in Sweden. The village is heaven for those who enjoy locally produced food. The Kullens Gårdsmejeri dairy produces different kinds of cheeses made from milk produced from the animals on the mountain pasture. The Klövsjö Stenugnsbageri stone oven bakery bakes sourdough bread and cakes and pralines that can be sampled at the in-house café. Klövsjö Gårdsbryggeri brewery makes various kinds of beer. Don’t forget to visit the local heritage centre Tomtan, which dates back to the 1700s. Klövsjö is part of destination Vemdalen.


Gold, swimming and nature
Åsarna is a beautiful place to visit, with a good range of places to stay and eat, a new rollerskating rink, a ski museum, and good service. The tag Golden Village has come about because of the many international successes reaped by skiers from Åsarna IK sports club since the Wold Championships in 1970 until the present day. Rätan has beautiful sandy beaches, a heated outdoor pool and hiking trails through forests and along waterways. Around Röjan and Rätan there is the Sandnäsgrottan cave, Hammarede historic forest, and Klövsjö-Vemdalen golf course in Utanbergsvallarna, all surrounded by fantastic nature.

… Helags (1,796 m above sea level), Sweden’s highest mountain south of the Arctic Circle, is in Berg municipality. Länstrafiken operates a bus service to Ljungdalen from Åsarna.

 

Highlights! Himmelriket (heaven) in Hackås. Himmelriket is located around Hackås church by the shore of lake Storsjön, with a view of the Oviksfjällen mountains. The church contains well-preserved murals from the 12th century, making it the oldest stone church in Norrland. In Himmelriket there is also a pilgrimage centre, a steamboat museum and a café.
